Love Unlimited: Snail-Mail Campaign

In order to remind everyone that they are truly lovable, Girlyfight is coordinating our first ever snail-mail campaign during Love Unlimited month!

Remember those elementary school days when we’d sit around the crafts table, excitedly gluing glitter and paper hearts to the outside of a manila envelope to transform it into a Valentine’s Day mailbox? February 14th couldn’t come fast enough! We couldn’t wait to overdose on sugar and see who had sent us an over-priced mass-produced cartoon character valentine. Nothing says ‘I Love You’ to a second-grader like sugary, heart-shaped lollipops.

As adults, Valentine’s gifts and cards are reserved almost exclusively for those in romantic relationships. The unspoken message to many is that if you aren’t in a relationship, you don’t deserve to feel loved. But not this year. We’ve had enough and Girlyfight is determined to do something about it!

Here’s how this is going to work: Between now and February 10th, we’re going to collect names and addresses of anyone who could use a little pick-me-up. Around the 14th, all of those people will receive a card or note in the mail that will hopefully make them feel a bit of love.

The project has two ways you can get involved:

1. Submitting Recipients: Submit names and addresses here for people who could benefit from a bit of mail. Consider submitting friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, shut-ins, or even yourself. Everyone submitted will receive one card in the mail. Know more than one person that could use some good cheer? You’re not limited to just one submission. After this project, the address list will be destroyed – not sold, not used for future mailings, just deleted.

2. Send Cards: We’ve all heard that it’s better to give than to receive so here’s your opportunity to put that into practice. We’re looking for volunteers to help send cards and notes to the all of those people who need a postal hug. Submit your own name and email address here if you would be willing to send cards or notes in time to reach some of our recipients. We encourage you to send something small, perhaps handcrafted. Don’t feel like you can’t participate if you aren’t the arts and crafts type or don’t have a lot of extra money – we’ll be offering suggestions of simple ways you can send some happiness.

We’re really excited for the Girlyfight community (that means YOU!) to come together on this project! It’s your first opportunity to get a little creative and send some encouragement out into the world. Let’s brighten someone’s day by reminding them that someone out there cares.
