Women’s History Month
Although we here at Girlyfight think every month should be a month where we recognize the achievements and the beauty of women – and, we do! – we’re excited that it’s Women’s History Month!
This year’s theme is Our History is Our Strength and we think that is a fitting focus for 2011. Women possess great strength, courage and compassion and it’s invaluable for all women, young and old, to be able to learn from and admire the women who helped pave the way.
Did you know that National Women’s History Month wasn’t made official by Congress until 1987?? I guess that would explain why I don’t remember ever learning anything about women in history while I was a wee one in elementary school. More importantly, I think we have a responsibility to remember and recognize women from around the world, not just the U.S., that made significant contributions to our cause.
One of the goals we have for this month is to learn more about women from all over the globe that are in the process of making history. With the nation posed for great revolution and change, with women more educated than ever before, we are seeing the brilliant and different ways women are helping to change the face of the world we live in – and it’s incredibly fascinating to watch.
Do you know an awesome woman doing big things for the greater good? Are YOU an amazing woman working towards change? We’d love for you to share a little bit about the amazing women you know and admire! Heck, if you’d like to write a guest post, we’d love to share your words and stories with our readers. Be sure to leave a comment below so we can get in touch with you.
Here’s to you!
