Prompt: Inked

Mar 12, 2012 by

Our weekly prompts are exercises in dreaming and doing. Some will feature specific questions, others will include just a word or phrase. Respond any way you like - whatever the prompt below inspires in you, go with it. Whether you respond with a written response (poetry, an essay, a bit of fiction) or a visual response (photo, paint, video, art), we’d love for you to share your responses with us by leaving a comment or link below.

This week's prompt:

Prompt: Inked

Describe your dream tattoo.

Pretend there will be no cost, no pain, and no degradation of quality as the years slide by. What would it look like? Where would it be? What would it mean?

I’ve been thinking about this lately actually. I’m thinking I would go with the word “family” but in Scottish Gaelic, very small, maybe on the underside of my wrist where my watch would cover it. But I hate needles and pain and mostly I think tattoos are ugly.

    • I’m not a big fan of needles or pain either. I also have commitment issues. I like your idea though. If I ever got a tattoo, it would likely be Irish-related. Perhaps just a small four leaf clover or something along those lines.

  2. Eventually when I can afford it I am going to get a tattoo to symbolize my son, so I can carry him with me all the time. I picked out the sacral chakra symbol, which is a lotus with a crescent moon inside. I think that the lotus looks like a sun and since my little boy is my sunshine I think it suits well, and it is the “womb” chakra so it couldn’t be more perfect.

If money was no object and it wouldn’t look nasty when I get old, I would want a watercolor looking peacock feather on my back. I love the colors and I think it would just be really pretty. But tattoos cost a lot and I can’t afford it.
